| Terms | Definition / Meaning |
| Electrolyte | substances that can conduct electricity when they are in molten state or aqueous solution and undergo chemical changes |
| Non- Electrolyte | substances that cannot conduct electricity either in molten state or aqueous solution. |
| Electrolysis process | a process whereby compounds in molten or aqueous state are broken down into their constituent elements by passing electricity through them. |
| Electrode | A conductor ( wire/rod/plate) which carry electric current in and out of an electrolyte during electrolysis. |
| Anode | An electrode which is connected to the positive terminal of an electric source |
| Cathode | An electrode which is connected to the negative terminal of an electric source |
| Cation | A positive charged ion |
